Comments are disabled

POST to a comments API returned that comments are off for that surface. GET may still return an empty disabled list without this error text.

Why this happens

• File download pages: Enable file comments / toggle.efc off
• Public folders: Public folder comments off
• News: site news.comments_enabled off, or the post has comments disallowed

Diagnose and fix

1. Settings → Files — turn on file comments and/or public folder comments as needed.

2. News comments enabled (+ per-post allow-comments) for news articles.

3. Save and refresh the page; try posting again.

4. Captcha and length rules only apply once comments are enabled.
