marketing.mass_email catalog defaults (seeded disabled). Composer under Users starts blank; use %username% and %unsubscribe_url%.

Default subject/body include %site_name%, %username%, %message%, %unsubscribe_url%.

How campaigns actually send
Compose and queue under Admin → Users → Mass email (/admin/users/mass-email) and watch Mass email queue.
The composer starts with empty subject/body (does not auto-load this template). Personalization in the job path is only %username% and %unsubscribe_url% - plain text. Segment cap 2000; email-selected max 200 IDs.
Delivery uses Settings → Main → Email delivery. Unsubscribed recipients are skipped.
